The California FAIR Plan (Fair Access to Insurance Requirements) is a state-mandated insurance program designed as a last-resort option for homeowners who cannot obtain coverage in the standard market — typically due to wildfire risk or other high-hazard conditions. It provides basic fire and hazard coverage but does not include the full protections of a standard homeowners policy. If you've been placed on the FAIR Plan or are having difficulty finding coverage, we can help explore your options, including pairing the FAIR Plan with a Difference in Conditions (DIC) policy for more complete protection.
A Difference in Conditions (DIC) policy is a supplemental insurance policy designed to fill the coverage gaps left by a more limited policy — most commonly the California FAIR Plan. While the FAIR Plan covers fire and certain perils, it leaves out important protections like liability, theft, water damage, and personal property coverage. A DIC policy wraps around the FAIR Plan to provide those missing coverages, giving you protection that's much closer to a standard homeowners policy. Together, the FAIR Plan and a DIC policy can provide comprehensive coverage even when standard market options aren't available to you.
